Oh man another awesome show!
The following is the review that I posted on the Tejano Journal (For those who don't like to read scroll down to the arrows to get to the rest of the pictures)
Yo soy feliz , feliz, feliz , y mucho muy feliz..... Actually La Mafia didn't do that song on Friday night, BUT, man oh man when they did "Oyeme" (from the "Enter the Future" CD) I looked at my MySpace buddy (Henry) who was standing next to me throwing gritos like crazy, I was like ,"in the 13 years I've been following them I don't believe I've ever heard them do that one live!" An awesome song, but one that I hadn't even thought about in years, it was wonderful to hear it live.
I had really been missing "my boyz" and so happy that they were back in Big D, and well , y'all know me, I like to be front and center in the trenches with the masses, and although Club Rio is a venue that I like, I don't like the way they inhibit the fans by having a VIP section with about 50 tables taking up the entire space between the stage and the dance floor, but it's a high stage with a great view from any vantage point, and right before the show we made our move to stake out a place on the dance floor at the rail right behind the restricted (VIP) area, and others followed suit until it was about 10 deep on the dance floor, and people were shoulder to shoulder in the aisles between the dance floor and the bars. I was thinking, that , while it was a VERY LARGE crowd indeed, it could have been better, but oh man soon after La Mafia began playing I could feel the crowd growing as the people behind me began to press against me, and I looked behind me and low and behold the place was JAM PACKED. I was like "where did all these people come from? "
To say the show was AMAZING is an understatement, but you know, there just aren't enough adjectives to describe a La Mafia show. I can't even begin to name all the songs they played, but they did as Oscar had promised (in the radio interview), they played the songs the audience requested. They played several songs that I hadn't heard them do in a while including "Quiereme" from WAY back in the day. People were shouting out requests when all of a sudden a booming voice came over the speakers requesting "Quiero Amanacer Contigo" and Oscar was looking up to heaven asking where that voice came from, it was too funny.
The highlight of the show for me was hearing them do their current hit "Sigo Siendo Un Romántico", oh man Mando's awesome arrangement on that intro really revs up a crowd, and you combine that awesome music with the tenderness in Oscar's voice as he sings those lyrics that are so poetic and so meaningful, it was absolutely incredible.
Now, back to the VIPers in front. Oh man, I could tell they were thoroughly mesmerized by La Mafia and thrilled to death to be up close, but La Mafia likes to make the audience part of the show, and that can be quite a challenge to any artist when the nearest table is about 6 feet away from the stage, that is UNLESS YOU ARE OSCAR DE LA ROSA! Oh man, did he ever get them involved, they were throwing roses onto the stage and someone sent a shot of tequila up to him and he held it up in a toast and everyone in the audience raised their bottles (or glasses). I don't know how he does it, he was cutting up with the VIPers in front and still playing to entire audience, making everyone feel involved. At one point he ploped himself down on the edge of stage with his feet dangling as he he was singing.. Then he slid on down to the floor and continued singing , and even though most of us couldn't even see him, the entire crowd was thrilled to see him do that, and THEN when he climbed up on one of the tables to finish the song the crowd went totally berserk.
As per usual, La Mafia left the crowd wanting more. The MC asked if we wanted them to bring La Mafia back and everyone was screaming wildly. He was so impressed by La Mafia's show and the way the crowd was reacting to them that he even asked them, in front of everybody, if they would come back in August to do their aniversary show. Mando whiped out some kind of electronic device from his pocket to check the schedule and Oscar walked over to see, but unfortunately that date was already taken, so I dont' know when they will be back. I'm just thankful that they've been up here twice this year.
