I had arrived in Crystal City while the parade was going on and the temperature was in the 70s, people were wearing tank tops and shorts, and as the sun started going down the temperature started dropping. It's a good thing that people who had paid their admission had been given wrist bands so that they could get back in because a LOT of people had to leave and change clothes. They're really not used to cold weather down there LOL, it was in the low 50s and I saw people in lawn chairs with blankets.
Crystal City has a population of 8,000 so I was thinking that maybe there would be about 10,000 people there, with people coming in from the surrounding cities. WRONG! I spoke to one of the security people about 30 minutes before La Mafia came on and he told me that there were already 50,000 plus there, and I could see that people were still streaming in.
Oh man, what an incredible show. Oscar told the everyone to huddle together to keep warm. The crowd quickly forgot about the cold as La Mafia cranked out hit after hit, with everyone singing along , and man they went wild when Oscar announced that Los Palominos were back stage (3 of them anyway) and asked if they wanted him to bring them on.
I didn't realize how cold I was until after the show when I walked several blocks to my car (where I had left my jacket when it was 70 degrees LOL) and the thermometer in my car said it was 48! |
