Oh MAN! What a night! You can always feel the excitement in the air when you know that La Mafia is going to be in the house, add Los Palominos, and I mean it doesn't get any better. To add to the excitement, the word had gotten out about La Mafia's upcoming USO tour to Germany and The Netherlands (where they were heading in just two days) , and people were so excited you would have thought they were going with them. Lubbock, TX was ready to give La Mafia one helluva sendoff.
The place was jam packed and La Mafia gave us too full sets of absolutely incredible music, everything from an awesome 80s jam all they way through their current Latin Grammy Award "Para el Pueblo". Man you should have seen the line for autographs and photos during the break.
To close the show they invited Johnny and James (from Los Palominos) onstage to do "Ya No Existe" and the crowd went wild and demanded more, so they did another song and THEN, (and I've never seen him do this ) , Mando came to the front to play accordion with Johnny, while the rest of the guys played along. It was just too cool.
I didn't stick around too long after the show because they had a mob of people around them and I knew they had a 10 drive back to H-town and only one day to rest before their flight to Germany. I left on such a high, so excited for La Mafia and so happy for our troops in Europe who were about to experience what we had just experienced in Lubbock, Tx |
