The annual Cinco de Mayo event at Texas Stadium has become the largest Cinco de Mayo event in Texas. When I left my apartment for the 10 mile drive, I had no idea that the attendance this year would be double that of last year, and that it would take me 2 hours to get there. At 4:30 I began working my way through the crowd to try to get as close as possible to the front of the stage. To my left I could see an unending stream of people walking accross the pedestrian bridge, and and on the freeway behind the stage, cars were backed us as far as the eye could see. I enjoyed the early shows as I continued to work my way closer. As the excitement was building for Los Palominos and La Mafia I was finally about 3 back, just in time to see Los Palominos put on an awesome show with the massive crowd singing along on every song.
It was now 8:00 PM and "Push Push" was being played over the speakers as the crowd (still in a trance from Los Palominos' enchanting performance) waited anxiously for LA MAFIA to make their entrance, and when they did the the crowd went totally beserk!!!! And as with Los Palominos, they were singing along on EVERY song. Young girls were screaming Oscar! Oscar! Oscar! When they did "Me Estoy Enamorando", during the part where Oscar always pauses, the screams were deafening and he had to pause a VERY long time until he finally had to continue over the screams. And when they did "Vida" some of the young girls behind me had tears streaming from their eyes. I let one of them in front of me when Oscar came over to our side of the stage and she was beside herself saying to me "Did you see? He looked at me." |
